A rating used to
calculate a vulnerability, based on the relative damage incurred if a threat
exploits a vulnerability. For example, if a threat can obtain root privileges
by exploiting a vulnerability, the potential damage is rated high. If a
vulnerability only lets the threat browse a portion of a file system, and this
type of activity causes little or no damage to the network, the potential
damage is rated low.
